VLC for Windows Phone is definitely not perfect and could do with a bit more polishing and bug fixing, but developer VideoLabs is working hard to provide these to users.

Since its release in Windows Phone Store several months ago, VLC received quite a few updates that addressed various issues. New features were added from time to time, although the Windows Phone version of the media player is still far behind in comparison with its Android/iOS counterparts.

The newest update for VLC for Windows Phone is meant to fill in the gap between multiple versions of the application. It brings lots of bug fixes and a few new functions that should make Windows Phone users want to take advantage of its features more often than not.

The first thing long-time VLC users might want to know is the fact that developers have decided to add back button in Search Pages.

In addition, VideoLabs has fixed responsive design and UX issues in Search Pagers. Also, Lumia 1020, 920, and 925 get Responsive Design fix for the following issue: Music Player isn’t showing all controls in landscape mode.

More updates are expected to arrive in the coming weeks

There's another improvement included in this update, which concerns the InterProcess communication between the VLC process and the Background Audio Task, which was using too much CPU to get Position, Time, MediaPlayerState.

Thanks to the new update, the InterProcess communication will now be using a cache for those values, so CPU consumption went from up to 40% to less than 10%.

Developers also confirmed they have fixed FileNotFoundException when Sharing the now playing album if it has no cover.

They have also fixed a problem that made a media fail to read, and sometime crashed the application when it wants to display the “can’t read media” dialog. Last but not least, a dozen of tiny bugs and crashes should also be fixed.

You can now download VLC for Windows Phone for free via Windows Phone Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8.1.
