We reported about VLC for Windows Phone in the last couple of weeks since developers teased the release of the long-awaited application.

Even though no details on the exact launch date have been shared by the folks over at Videolan, they did inform Windows Phone users that there would be a closed beta period before the app should be made available for everyone.

In this regard, before the application was published in Windows Phone Store, developers opened up registrations for the beta version of VLC.

Obviously, only a limited number of spots were available for beta testers, which filled up in just a few hours since Videolan announced the move through its social channels.

Unfortunately, the delivery of the beta version of VLC to those who were accepted into the trial was delayed by several days because of some issues with the application that led to it not being approved by Microsoft for release in Windows Phone Store.

Well, a few days later, VLC beta has been published on Windows Phone Store, so let the test begin. As mentioned earlier, even though the application may show in the store, it’s only available to those who were accepted in the beta program.

The application does not support Windows Phone 8 handsets

If you are one of the lucky Windows Phone users who managed to register into the closed beta for VLC, then you should check the store for the media player.

Keep in mind that there might be lots of bugs and issues that need to be ironed out, but that’s what the closed beta is for, so if you agreed to test the application, then you should certainly send your feedback to developers in order to fix them.

VLC is supposed to offer Windows Phone users a powerful media player with which they will be able to watch videos while on the move. The application supports just about any video file format that you might think of.

Moreover, VLC for Windows Phone also comes with subtitles support, album art and a lot more other features meant to improve user multimedia experience. Hopefully, nothing major is missing from one of the most anticipated applications for Windows Phone mobile platform.

You can now download VLC for Windows Phone beta for free via Windows Phone Store. The application is fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8.1 and up, so those with Windows Phone 8 devices won’t be able to use it.
