Windows Phone users will be pleased to know that folks over at VideoLan may launch the highly anticipated VLC application on their favorite platform very soon.

The application has been in development for quite a long time, but lately developers have made good progress and VLC may soon be released in Windows Phone Store.

According to developers, the release of VLC for Windows Phone should happen next week. Obviously, in case something bad happens and any number of bugs prevents devs from launching VLC for Windows Phone, the application will be delayed.

Keep in mind that VLC will only support Windows Phone 8.1 devices, so if you haven’t upgraded yet, you won’t be able to download and install it.

It’s also worth mentioning that developers confirmed the application would support all video file formats, including MKV. We can also expect VLC to come with subtitles support as well.

If everything goes according to the plan, the VLC application could soon become the complete video player solution that Windows Phone users have been waiting for a few years now.

Given that it will be free download and use and the high number of supported video formats, VLC will certainly be one of the most popular Windows Phone applications.
