Developers are looking for Windows Phone testers

Videolan's VLC video player for Windows Phone is one of the most anticipated applications for Microsoft's operating system. The video player was announced a long time ago, but it's not yet ready for a full release in Windows Phone Store.

After a few missed deadlines, VLC for Windows Phone is nearing a closed beta debut. This is rather unusual for an application for which users have been waiting for nearly two years.

However, this means that the folks over at Videolan still need to iron out some issues before making VLC available to all Windows Phone users.

The developer's previous attempt to make the application available to a limited number of users didn't prove successfully as VLC wasn't able to play videos at all.

Let's hope that this time Videolan will only have a few things to fix before going live with VLC in Windows Phone Store.

Anyway, those who are interested in taking part in the beta program were invited to fill in a registration, which would allow them to access the first beta build of VLC for Windows Phone.

Unfortunately, developers do not accept registrations anymore. It appears that it only took them a few hours to reach the maximum number of beta testers they intend to have in their program.

The application will not be available for everyone at this stage

In the same piece of news, Thomas Nigro, one of VLC's developers, has announced that the first beta build of the application will be delivered to those who were accepted in the program sometime today.

While there's no telling when exactly VLC beta for Windows Phone will be released for testers, at least there's an indication that development of the application has come a long way and Windows Phone users should expect the final version to hit at least open beta by the end of the year.

Obviously, we hope that beta testers won't find any major issues that could delay the release of VLC for Windows Phone further into the next year.

If you are one of the many Windows Phone users who haven't been accepted into the beta program of the application, then you might want to see VLC in action in the videos below.

Let's hope that the good folks at Videolan will be able to release the final version of VLC video player for Windows Phone sooner rather than later. We will keep an eye out for any additional info on the matter, so stay tuned.
