It's been less than a week since the Windows Phone version of VLC was updated with some new features and lots of improvements, and developers have released yet another update, but this time for the Android app.

VLC for Android is one of the most popular media players in the Google Play Store, with more than 1 million downloads. It's definitely much better than the Windows Phone version of VLC, which is far behind when it comes to development.

Anyway, the latest release of VLC for Android brings some new options and functions, as well as bug fixes and small improvements.

Apart from the fact that it bumps VLC to version 1.3.2, the update also adds support for background playback for video. Another new feature included in this update is the Audio Delay control, which is now activated.

New design and updated codecs

Furthermore, developers have confirmed that the application now features a new look in the audio player, and in the side bar. Also, there's a new Album View, an improved search behavior, additional Android 5.0 Lollipop effects, along with a simplified video player controller and a brand new file browser.

But that is not all, as VideoLabs have confirmed that on the backend side, they have fixed hardware acceleration for TS files and added support for audio scrobblers.

Last but not least, the official changelog mentions that developers have fixed SD cards browsing, and added better logging and updated codecs.

You can now download VLC for Android 1.3.2 for free via Google Play store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.

Keep in mind that this version of VLC is available for all devices except ARMv6 ones. However, they will be eventually supported in a future release, so stay tuned for more on this one.
