Although the folks over at VideoLan, developers of the application, are hard at work improving their recently launched VLC for Windows Phone, they still dedicate some of their time to support the Android version.

The latest update that has just been released on Google Play Store brings lots of minor new features, as well as some improvements and many bug fixes.

First of all, the update should bump the application to version 1.2. It's also worth mentioning that the new version enhances some of the features that have been implemented in previous iterations.

Anyway, without further ado, here are some of the most important new features and improvements included in this update.

Those who rely on VLC for Android to watch movies or listen to music will be pleased to know that developers have included simple audio playlist support for the application.

Some bugs and issues have been addressed too

Another addition to VLC for Android is the option to playback last video action in the menu. Users will be pleased to know that they will now be able to sort music and videos by modified date.

Cover art for video and directory exclusion from media library have been added as well, along with double lock on video playback lock mode. Last but not least, VideoLan confirmed they have implemented better TV navigation and recommendations.

Beside new features and improvements, developers also fixed some bugs and issues, such as volume and brightness sensibility, black theme and video speed between videos. Numerous crashes, notably on 2.x, have been addressed as well.

You can now download VLC for Android 2.1 for free via Google Play store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and up.
