Joy to the world as ladies and sirs who don't find any of the mainstream deities and religions to their liking or at least credible can opt to join the United Church of Bacon, a cult spoof based in the city of Las Vegas in the US.

This mockery religious movement was started by a man named John Whiteside quite a while ago, in 2010, and now boasts well over 4,000 members.

The United Church of Bacon claims to be very much legal and, consequently, organizes weddings, baptisms and even funerals for people who don't want any of the run-of-the-mill deities mentioned during such ceremonies.

You have to be an atheist to join this church

Unlike other religious movements, the Las Vegas-based United Church of Bacon requires that one be an atheist to join its ranks. Well, there is one accepted god, bacon, but this deity was elected only to stress that the cult is meant as a spoof.

The reason folks who want to join the United Church of Bacon must be atheists is because this would-be religion was started precisely to fight discrimination against people who don't adhere to any of the existing mainstream religions.

“The hatred of atheists, atheophobia and secularphobia, has no stigma, unlike homophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and racism. That needs to change,” the mockery religious movement quotes bacon prophet John as saying.

“The skeptics’ church has a serious intent, to fight religious discrimination against non-believers, to promote church-state separation, and to demand equal rights for everyone, regardless of faith,” the cult sums up its dignified mission.

The odd church even has commandments

Just like a certain mainstream religion whose members have made it a habit to discriminate against atheists, the United Church of Bacon comes complete with a set of commandments that all worthy members are required to abide by.

These commandments ask guys and gals to be nice to each other, pay their taxes, be skeptical of the claims made by other religions, and most importantly, worship and praise bacon whenever they have the chance. If not actual bacon, at least turkey bacon or vegetarian bacon.

Despite having been subject to severe criticism over the years, the United Church of Bacon has no intention to quit fighting for equal rights for believers and atheists. On the contrary, this cult spoof hopes to continue to grow in the years to come.
