The studio is still focused on the core story

Video game developer Naughty Dog and publisher Sony impressed many PlayStation 4 fans with the Uncharted 4: A Thief's End clip they showed at the E3 2015 press conference, but a recent statement suggests that there are no plans to make the coming experience entirely open world.

GameSpot quotes creative director Neil Druckmann as saying that the company is currently using the wide linear term to refer to the structure of the game, which means that the focus remains on the story but gamers will have a lot of choices when it comes to their moment-to-moment actions.

The developer states, "The thing I have a hard time with, in open-world games, is that there’s a lack of tension. Say if my ally’s life is in jeopardy; I can still go off and do five different side-quests, and I don’t believe that jeopardy. So I feel we need some way to control the pacing, and it needs to be ways where you are still active as well."

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End's demo clip showed an impressive firefight in a crowded marketplace, which featured a lot of movement as Nathan Drake tried to stay away from a powerful machine gun.

After that, the main character and Sully used a jeep to run away from the army in a sequence where the development team suggested that a wide array of paths could be used.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End tells the last story linked to the characters

Naughty Dog has always seen the story as the most important element in the video games they create, focusing on it even if the gameplay might suffer a little.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will show a retired Nathan Drake, who needs to go back into the treasure hunting business when his long-lost brother Sam reappears.

Together with all the regulars of the series, they will have to track down a massive ancient pirate treasure and, as always, deal with an organization that has a bigger conspiracy built around it.

Naughty Dog says that the game will tackle themes including loss, the power of sacrifice, and the way a man can reform his character.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will only be offered on the PlayStation 4 and should be out during the first quarter of 2016.
