Uma Thurman has a new miniseries on NBC right now, “The Slap,” so she stopped the other day by The Today Show to talk a bit with Savannah Guthrie about it and, of course, the crazy speculation online that she got a “new face” through plastic surgery and injectables.

Just like her makeup artist said a day before, Uma insists there’s nothing more to the controversy than different styling and different makeup. So all those saying that she’s gotten an entirely new face are just plain wrong.

“No one liked my makeup”

You will find the interview below. The bigger part of it is dedicated to “The Slap,” an 8-part miniseries that Uma is clearly very passionate about, especially since it’s the kind of project that doesn’t make it on TV that often.

However, she also addresses the controversy around her photos on the red carpet, at the premiere of the series, and shrugs it off as being meaningless. She just wanted to go for a different look and achieved it through styling and makeup, there really isn’t anything more to say about it.

Working in the industry for as many years as she has, you come to understand that the job comes with the good and bad together, and that the bad can often verge on very mean, like it happened the other day.

She does have a point: while most people were content with noticing that Uma looked different, when the red carpet photos emerged online, many were downright vicious in their observations, even insulting her for being so stupid as to ruin her face.

Being famous may have awesome perks, but it also has hurtful downsides.

Going for fresh “Parisienne chic”

This is who Uma’s makeup artist explained the actress’ drastically different look. Apparently, they wanted to go for something chic and natural-looking and very French in essence, so they opted for the bold lip with almost naked eyes, and a rather severe hairdo.

Face contouring and foundation were applied, and Uma’s eyebrows were made to pop with coloring and “feathering.” She did have eyeshadow on, but it was in the most discreet, natural-looking shade possible, but she had no mascara.

The look was finished off with the bold, bright lip, in what they hoped would be a dramatic effect.

The way the change was perceived must have been a surprise for both the actress and her makeup guy: people assumed Uma had gotten a “new face” with fillers and Botox, and lots of plastic surgery, and that she’d only gone for this styling to try and cover the fact that she’d had work done.
