14 DAY TRIAL // The Ubuntu MATE project receives donations from over the world, but the developers don't spend it all in one place. In fact, they also contribute to other projects and this month the two projects that received funds are Tilda and Plank.
The Ubuntu MATE makers chose to share some of the donations they got. It's not a large sum of money, but this has been done more to provide an example for other people and entities that have some extra cash lying around. People tend to forget that most Linux devs work on their free time, and they don't it for the money, so any support is always welcome.
Ubuntu MATE makes use of several third-party packages, and it seems only fair that some of the donations that head towards the operating system should also benefit the people who involuntarily participate for the success of another project.
This is not the first donation from Ubuntu MATE
The project did the same kind of gesture last month and it looks like they are willing to repeat this process as long as there are funds for it. Even if it's not a lot, it still shows other devs that they care.
"We are delighted to announce that Ubuntu MATE has donated €50 to Sebastian Geiger of the Tilda project and also €50 to Rico Tzschichholz of the Plank project. These are two great applications; both improve the user experience of Ubuntu MATE 15.04. The addition of Tilda generated an awful lot of attention for Ubuntu MATE and has proven an extremely useful development tool. Plank is well known, and loved, by many Linux users. Plank (and Docky before it) have been an essential part of my desktop set-up for years," wrote Martin Wimpress on the official blog.
In case you didn't know already, Tilda is a drop-down menu that has been integrated, by default, into Ubuntu MATE, and Plank is a dock application that follows a minimalist approach.
