Developers are looking for people who can help

The development cycle for Ubuntu and all its flavors is coming to an end and the devs are getting ready for launch day. The Ubuntu MATE makers are now asking for the community's help in order to put together a launch video.

Ubuntu flavors don't have launch video, but Ubuntu MATE is the newest kind on the block and developers want to shake things up a little bit. They have already made a lot of improvements to the distribution, but there is no reason why they can't also have a cool and professional launch video that underlines all the new stuff that will be available in the operating system.

The Ubuntu MATE project has a great community and the makers of the OS probably figured that some users probably have much greater experience with this kind of stuff. Outsourcing the video production of the launch video is a great idea and users will probably produces some very interesting materials.

All the Ubuntu teams should have videos

A video is a great addition for dry release notes that are often aimed at the more technically inclined. Not all the potential users will understand the Vivid Vervet changelog, which often needs translating. It's difficult to figure out what is a new feature, what is a fix, or what are the new packages, especially if you are a new user, so a short video should be more than welcomed.

GNOME, for example, already provides such videos for each major release and they are exquisitely done. They already have some experience with this kind of work, but it would be nice if more developers invested the time for a proper launch.

Users will need to follow a few simple rules that have been laid out by Martin Wimpress, one of the devs. "Are you a video creation genius? Ubuntu MATE would like a 15.04 launch video for final release on April 23rd."

- Widescreen 720p minimum. - Show the new features of Ubuntu MATE 15.04. - Assets used (music/art) must be under a permissive licence, such as Creative Commons. - Final video must be CC BY-SA. - Official Ubuntu MATE artwork available at https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mate-dev/ubuntu-mate/artwork

Enjoy!
