Ubuntu Kylin 15.04 (Vivid Vervet), the Chinese Linux distribution developed in collaboration with Canonical that's based Ubuntu, has been released and is now ready for download.

Ubuntu Kylin is slowly making a name for itself in China, and it's already a long-lived distro. Many promising open-source operating systems have come and gone in China, but very few have managed to consistently provide updates and new versions. Canonical is new to the Chinese market, but it's making an important dent and the fact that a newer and better version of the OS is made available every six months is really important.

The distribution features numerous specific applications and it's primarily built by Chinese developers. In fact, it's a collaboration between China Software and Integrated Chip Promotions Centre (CSIP), National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), and Canonical.

Ubuntu Kylin 15.04 is an important upgrade

The Chinese developers have been really busy and Ubuntu Kylin comes with a ton of new stuff, just like it always does. None of the versions made available until now can be accused of being boring, and the same can be said about 15.04.

"In this release, we improve the system stability and native user experience and fix many remaining bugs about i18n/l10n. Besides, aiming to provide a finer service to more users, we internationalizing the software, i.e. Youker Assistant which was developed for Chinese users initially. Compared to 14.10, the Linux Kernel is updated to 3.19, Unity 7.3.2, Ubuntu Kylin Software Center 1.3.1, Youker Assistant 2.0.2, Youker Calendar 1.0.2, Youker Fcitx 2.1.0, Sogou Pinyin 1.2.0, Kuaipan 2.0.0.4 and WPS 2014," reads the official announcement.

If you already have Ubuntu Kylin installed, you don't really have to do anything extra, just to upgrade your system to the new version. You can download Ubuntu Kylin 15.04 right now from Softpedia.
