Other games might have been affected as well

Since Ubisoft continues to offer as few details as possible on why it decided to deactivate keys for its latest games to lots of Uplay users, many assumptions have been made on what could have caused it.

However, it looks like the publisher has started to reveal more, but not because it wants to inform its players. Ubisoft recently confirmed to GameInformer that the keys that have been revoked over the weekend have been bought through EA's Origin store.

Some of you might still remember that there were some reports about how some Origin members had their accounts hacked and many noticed some purchases made with their accounts.

FIFA 2015 coins as well as the base game were mostly purchased by those who managed to get their hands on usernames and passwords of many Origin users.

Well, it looks like Far Cry 4 key were also purchased through Origin using fraudulent credit card information and then resold online. This is rather strange and makes one wonder why these keys haven't been bought directly from uPlay.

Anyway, here is Ubisoft statement regarding the removal of Far Cry 4 from Uplay for many players who purchased it through third-party retailers:

“We confirmed activation keys were recently purchased from EA’s Origin store using fraudulent credit card information and then resold online. These keys may have been deactivated. Customers who may have been impacted should contact the vendor where they purchased the key for a refund.”

EA also confirmed Ubisoft's statement and advises those who have lost access to their games to contact the retailer from where they got it and ask for a refund. They also state that players should purchase keys from Origin or other “trusted reseller,” not “authorized.”

“A number of activation keys for Ubisoft products were purchased from Origin using fraudulent credit cards, and then resold online. We identified the unauthorized keys and notified Ubisoft.

“If you are having trouble with an activation key, we recommend you contact the vendor who sold it to you for a refund. We strongly advise players only purchase keys from Origin or trusted resellers.”
