The projections are made for the games' first year on the market, based on Ubi's titles' previous performance

French developer and publisher Ubisoft's projected performance of its upcoming games sees Far Cry 4 selling 6 million copies and The Crew selling 2 million in their first year of existence.

Ubisoft's expectations for Far Cry 4 and The Crew are pretty lofty, but also grounded in the past performance of its titles. Moreover, the latest financial report from the company, covering the first half of the 2014-2015 fiscal year, shows a massive 65 percent rise in software sales compared to the same period last year.

The company is doing great, having surpassed its internal projections for Q2 of fiscal year 2014, a period when not much happened, largely due to the tail of its former blockbusters, with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Rayman Legends, Far Cry 3 and South Park: The Stick of Truth accounting for a large part of Ubisoft's revenue.

Ubisoft no doubt hopes to beat its projections

Far Cry 3, the last installment in the open-world first-person shooter series, managed to sell 6 million units during its first year on the market, and its lifetime sales have passed the 10 million milestone, which means that Far Cry 4 could potentially beat the company's projections.

The game has a lot of hype built around it, and the marketing deals with Sony will ensure that the game sells well on the PlayStation 4 home console, which so far has sold over 13.5 million units worldwide.

When it comes to Ubisoft's multiplayer-focused open-world racing video game, The Crew, the company is right to be conservative, but many might feel that it's overreaching. In addition to being a new IP, the game got a somewhat mixed reception during its beta test, with many players decrying the responsiveness of the controls.

In addition to this, in a climate where even Forza Horizon 2 is struggling, DriveClub was not met with the expected enthusiasm, and with Project Cars on the horizon, things might not go so well for The Crew.

The company has a solid lineup for the near future

The publisher is counting on hitting it big during its third quarter, with big games such as Assassin's Creed Unity, Assassin's Creed Rogue, Far Cry 4, Just Dance 2015 and The Crew all lined up for release.

Ubisoft's projections show that the company expects its Q3 sales to hover around the $918 / €730 million mark, a 40 percent increase over last year, which might not be that big of a stretch, taking into account the popularity of its games.

For the full fiscal year 2014-2015, Ubisoft is standing by its previously announced targets, expecting sales of at least $1.75 / €1.4 billion in total.
