After confirming that they're going to debut later this year Total War: Warhammer, Sega and Creative Assembly now bring forth some new details about the turn-based strategy game, confirming the playable factions as well as the core conflict and that this is the first title in a trilogy.

Total War games have delivered some top-notch strategy experiences over the years and developer Creative Assembly has made a name for itself by taking various historical periods, from Rome's glory days to Feudal Japan or even Attila the Hun's campaigns across Europe and transforming them into compelling games.

Now, the studio has teamed up with publisher Sega and Games Workshop to bring a strategy game set in the Warhammer universe.

The title, called Total War: Warhammer, got a great cinematic trailer earlier this week and now some fresh details are known about the main factions.

Total War: Warhammer brings some interesting factions

According to the details shared via Videogamer, there are three factions in the form of the Dwarfs, Vampire Counts, and the Orks and Goblins, which are bundled together in a single side.

It seems that the Empire isn't playable, or isn't available for confirmation just yet, but the rest of the factions will certainly offer some varied experiences.

The story focuses on the efforts of Karl Franz to marshal the Empire back to glory, but it seems that new threats are also coming from the north of the Old World.

Another interesting bit of information is that Total War: Warhammer is the first of a trilogy of standalone games, so expect the story to segue into two more sequels, possibly with ramifications into the Warhammer universe.

You can expect to hear much more about Total War: Warhammer in the very near future. The game is confirmed, for now, to appear on PC and Mac platforms later in the year.
