Gamers will have plenty of options when migrating

Total War: Attila is a game about the fall of the Roman Empire and the impact that barbarian tribes have on Western Europe, and one of the most important elements of the coming strategy title is the horde mode, which will be available to migratory factions that move across the map at will and have a wealth of new options.

Established empires in the coming game will still rely on castles and towns to control their regions, but the likes of the Ostrogoths, the Visigoths and others will start the game in horde mode.

This means that gamers will be free to roam around the map and take out targets of opportunity, planning where to strike next and how to avoid the most powerful tribes that are also in the area.

Hordes in Total War: Attila can pillage regions and gather a lot of money, but they also face threats not just from enemy armies but also from climate change and the lack of fertility in the regions they are moving around.

Gamers who choose a migratory faction have access to an encampment, which can be activated when a quarter of action points remain for an army, allowing access to buildings, recruitment, agent activation and more options.

When army integrity is low, players will have to make camp in order to make sure that their tribe is ready to fight as soon as possible.

Hordes can choose to settle down when they take a city

Running around as a horde is a cool gameplay mechanic, but once a city is captured players will get an option to settle down, which will eliminate all their encampment-based upgrades and will allow them to control territory as other factions.

Gamers will have to coordinate their major armies in order to make sure that they take as many regions as possible before making this important move, but they also have the option to become a horde at any point.

The Huns, although playable in Total War: Attila, will never get the option to settle down and will always remain a fast moving threat for the rest of the nations.

The new strategy title will be out on the PC in the middle of February.
