Respawn Entertainment wants a sequel and a new title

Respawn Entertainment, the developer of the recent Titanfall first-person shooter, confirms that it's close to selling over 8 million units of the game across PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 platforms, and that it now has two different teams working on new projects.

Titanfall was one of the most anticipated games in the early months of 2014, promising to deliver a novel multiplayer-only first-person shooter experience across the PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 platforms, due to an exclusivity agreement between publisher Electronic Arts and Microsoft.

Since then, developer Respawn Entertainment has worked hard on releasing free updates, not to mention premium map packs, so that players keep enjoying fresh experiences in the online game.

Respawn is quite thrilled with how Titanfall turned out

While looking back on the game's performance, Respawn boss Vince Zampella emphasizes that he's quite thrilled with how everything turned out, especially since the title is nearing 8 million unique users.

"We're obviously still selling so we are closing in on 8 million now. So for us, as an early launch on a limited platform we're pretty happy. I think the DLC has been pretty successful especially the last one - Frontier's Edge - has been very well received," he tells GameInformer.

Two games are now in development at the studio

Zampella also confirms that his company is now split into two different teams, with one possibly starting work on a sequel to Titanfall, while the other, under the leadership of recent hire Stig Asmussen, the game director for God of War 3, is working on a new title.

However, fans shouldn't expect to see any big announcements from the studio throughout 2015, as Zampella is confident that both teams need to start working hard to ensure that, when the time is right, the best announcements can be made.

"Respawn Entertainment does want to make more Titanfall. I've already said future projects will not necessarily be exclusive. Next year will be a little quiet. We'll be heads down, back to work. Next year [we will be] figuring out what we're doing and really kind of honing in on what the next games will be," he adds.

When a Titanfall 2 and the other new game from Respawn do get announced, expect them to appear on way more platforms than the original Titanfall, as Zampella was quite vocal about his distaste concerning the Microsoft partnership made by EA, which shortened the potential user base for the actual game.
