The development team at 11 Bit Studios is announcing that it is delivering a major new update for its recently launched This War of Mine, which is designed to introduce some new content to the game and to fix some of the problems that players have been talking about in the past few weeks.

The official Steam Community announcement explains that at the start of a new playthrough, gamers have a chance to start in a new building, with its own layout and piles of rubble to sort through, which should add some replayability to the title.

At the same time, some locations were enhanced in unspecified ways, animations for characters are better, and the NPCs behave more realistically in This War of Mine.

Finally, 11 bit Studios states, “You will have bigger influence on shaping your story of civilians in war, making it more challenging or even giving it a totally new perspective. Please keep in mind that you have to play at least once to unlock this option.”

A longer list of fixes and balances can be accessed by clicking on the button at the end of this article, with more info on how behavior for some characters has changed.

This War of Mine is a complex video game and the developers will continue to listen to feedback from players and change those mechanics that are not yet well integrated with the rest.

A game about war from a different perspective

This War of Mine is one of the most interesting and surprising video games launched this year because it asks players to experience war as civilians who have survived a battle and are now forced to find a way to survive in a city under siege.

All resources are limited and in order to get food, materials or wood to burn, the group needs to scavenge a range of locations, some of them very dangerous, while also trying to upgrade their own shelter and keep away thieves.

This War of Mine can be very bleak and there are often acts of violence that make little sense, but the gameplay is engaging, with stealth sections that always feel tense and bartering that feels like high-stakes poker at times.

As the game progresses, players will need to decide whether they want to increase their survivor group or they prefer to stick with the first three, as long as they are alive, till the end.
