The device shows its face before the official announcement

Last week we told you that Pebble set up a countdown on its website which is due to expire in a day or so.

Naturally, we assumed that faced with avid competition from tech giants like Apple, who is due to launch its Watch product any time now, Pebble is looking to revitalize its portfolio too.

Now, the folks at 9to5Mac managed to grab an image of the upcoming device, which got posted to Pebble’s own servers. So a few hours before the grand announcement, we get to take a look at Pebble’s upcoming smartwatch.

It looks like a wider device which comes with a color display, just like we told you in the past. The watch has also been reported to be slimmer, but based on this image alone we can’t really tell if this is the case or not.

As for specs, the next-gen Pebble bundles a Cortex M4 processor and a 6-axis gyroscope. Don’t expect features like you’d see on the Apple Watch or Samsung Gear S. The new Pebble doesn’t have a touch screen and its resolution is pretty low compared to other offerings on the market.

The OS on the smartwatch has been through a complete makeover, curtesy of the team behind WebOS. The interface has been made to display a list of recent notifications and is outfitted with different animations and tweaks.

We’ll find out more about the new Pebble soon enough.
