More developers choose to release apps for Ubuntu phones

The Ubuntu Touch platform is still young and it's only available "officially" on a single phone, that was made available only sporadically through flash sales, but the number of apps in the store has been increasing on a constant basis, so much so that there are now more than a 1,000 apps available.

One of the main concerns for new mobile platform is the app support, which is never great. In fact, if we take a look back, we might remember that when Android was first made available it had only a handful of native apps and iOS had a huge advantage. Developer caught up and now Android has the largest app repository (albeit not the cleanest one.)

It will take a while for Ubuntu to attract most of the big companies out there and to entice them into releasing native apps, but it's already happening. Sure enough, there are quite a few important apps already available, like the famous Telegram for example, and their number is increasing each day. The 1,000 milestone was reached only a few days ago and it's already passed 1100.

Making apps for Ubuntu is easy

The main couple of reasons why developers are having an easy time developing for Ubuntu is the fact that QML is being used and that a hand SDK has been made available and it's available for everyone. The fact that you can publish an app in the store in under a minute also helps.

"Ubuntu Store has recently reached an important milestone: more than 1000 apps are available for download. This is the list of the Top 50 applications. I'm glad to see that one of my apps, Quick Memo, is in the first 10 positions. It hasn't been under active development for some months, but I promise to add some cool stuff in the next release, which hopefully should come the next month," wrote Stefano Verzegnassi on Google+.

There is an unofficial Ubuntu Store where you can see the apps, and it lists 1105 apps and scopes.
