Developer CD Projekt makes a statement against paid DLC

Polish developer CD Projekt RED announced last year that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would receive no less than 16 DLCs during this year. The first two DLC will be launched soon after the official release of the game, which is set for May 19.

But what’s interesting is the fact that all DLCs launched by CD Projekt for Witcher 3 will be offered for free. The company’s PR Head Michal Platkow-Gilewski said the following at that time:

“DLC, it’s small content. Like one-thousandth of the whole game. Why should you charge for that? If it’s small, give it for free. I know it’s not always possible or easy but this is what we want to give gamers; a little bit of love, which we’d like to get from other developers as gamers ourselves.”

More recently, CD Projekt reiterated its plans to offer 16 DLC packs for free to all those who purchase The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. According to the company’s co-founder Marcin Iwiński, CD Projekt is making a statement against paid DLC by releasing this content for free.

He told IGN that “we, as gamers, would like to be treated this way, 'Hey, give me free DLC.' It doesn't have to be something huge. And I'm saying we aren't giving out huge stuff, we aren't giving tens of hours of storyline here, we are giving small bits of pieces that don't cost a lot.”

There are no plans to add multiplayer to the Witcher games

Iwiński also made it clear that they have no intention of adding multiplayer to The Witcher series, as his company prefers to remain faithful to the books.

That might be one of the reasons they have released The Witcher Battle Arena, a 3v3 MOBA for mobiles, which is already available for download on Android and iOS platforms.

Bottom line is that, if you plan on purchasing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt before it gets released or afterwards, you should know that all DLC packs will be available for free because the folks at CD Projekt rock.
