The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is only a month away, and developer CD Projekt RED intends to enable users to get their hands dirty with the game.

Modding is pretty big on PC, as many talented players spend countless hours customizing their in-game experience and sharing their creations with others online.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most notable examples of video game experiences enhanced by the developer enabling users to toy around with the game files.

From high-resolution textures to completely different character models, users enhanced not only the way the aging game looks but also the way it plays, and the upcoming role-playing game from Polish developer CD Projekt RED seems like a perfect candidate for the same treatment.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings allowed users to create a lot of neat things using the REDkit, but since the game was nowhere near as popular as Skyrim, it wasn’t adopted as widely.

Now, The Witcher 3 is one of the most anticipated role-playing games of the year, and the developers want to eventually allow everyone to partake in the modding process, even console users.

The devs want to give users as much freedom as possible

The game will come with its own set of modding tools, and Visual Effects Artist Jose Teixeira has detailed some of the things that the team wants to do with the tool set, during an interview with WitcherBR.com.

He points out that the team is working on a new edition of the REDkit but that things would be a little difficult at first. That is because the devs created a lot of new tools during development, and although REDEngine is working really well, it’s also pretty complicated to use.

“It’s complicated because many new things were made very fast and it’s hard to use. Now we’re working to make it easier for the public, and then we will release it. We want to give as much freedom as possible so that you can do everything you want,” Teixeira states, as translated by DualShockers.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming out on May 19, 2015, headed to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC platforms.
