The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red reveals some fresh gameplay details about the upcoming role-playing game, alongside a screenshot showcasing that the face of protagonist Geralt of Rivia changes after consuming too many toxic potions.

The Witcher 3 is set to debut in May and over the last few months developer CD Projekt Red has revealed quite a lot of different details about the upcoming RPG and its different mechanics.

Now, in a new interview with GameTrailers, the studio goes a bit in-depth about some of the general gameplay mechanics, such as the quests and AI, but also the ecosystem that rules the environment and other such things.

Geralt can have a big impact on the game's world

First up, it seems that protagonist Geralt of Rivia can make a big impact through his actions on the game's world. Animals are governed by rather simple artificial intelligence systems, as harmless ones like goats of sheep will search for food and avoid predators. If you kill one of them, it's going to produce a smell that in turn attracts creatures like wolves. If the carcass isn't devoured, it will begin to rot and attract monsters that prefer rotting meat instead of fresh one.

If players kill off the deer population in a zone, wolves and their other predators will become less common, as they don't have prey to hunt.

Once Geralt eliminates the monster in a zone, humans will settle in and provide various services for players. The mechanic takes into account quite a lot of other elements, so prepare to see some interesting results.

Monsters don't scale with the players, so CD Projekt Red advises fans to stay away from creatures with a skull next to their name, as they can easily kill Geralt with just a single strike.

Loot evolves alongside the player, but you may find special weapons that provide elemental effects but require a higher level. When such a thing occurs, the game can level-down the item a certain amount, so that players can immediately start using it.

Last but not least, the studio confirms that Geralt's face will show signs if he ingests too many toxic potions, as you can see in the screenshot above, but using White Honey can cure him.
