14 DAY TRIAL // Ready at Dawn released more gameplay footage from their highly anticipated third-person shooter, coming to the PlayStation 4 sometime next year, The Order: 1886.
The two videos come from Sony’s PlayStation Experience event, held this weekend in Las Vegas, where the company showcased many of its upcoming titles. A lot of things have been shown, and 2015 is shaping up to be a great year for the PlayStation family.
One of the highlighted games was The Order: 1886, a game taking place in an alternate history, where supernatural beasts are real and they have been constantly threatening mankind for hundreds of years.
The latest reveal shows some furious gunfights, some quick, mid-shooting melee combat, and a portion of a fight against a deadly werewolf. The title has been praised for its realistic visuals and overall cinematic feel, and the latest gameplay video shows the same level of immersion that previous reveals had, with perhaps a tad more action in the mix.
Ready at Dawn also released a fresh batch of screenshots from the game, available in the gallery below.
A truly interesting premise
Many people criticized the game for being too much like an interactive movie, fearing that they would have to go through more quick-time events or other such non-game features than through actual gameplay sequences.
However, given Ready at Dawn previous experience working on the God of War franchise, it’s safe to assume that it’s got some exciting gameplay coming for us.
The premise of the game is another strong factor that will most likely influence The Order: 1886’s success, since it’s a relatable historical setting that brings something completely original to the table.
The grave overall tone seen in cutscenes and gameplay videos so far points to Ready at Dawn also preparing a challenging and engrossing single-player storyline for players to go through, with a lot of tense moments to experience.
The plot follows an ancient order of knights, fighting to keep humanity safe from a breed of man-animal hybrids that have branched out from the main evolutionary tree.
Mankind has fought a losing battle for most of history, but the advent of the Industrial Revolution sparked the first genuine hope of salvation. Brilliant inventors and a mysterious liquid that extends life and bestows miraculous healing abilities are man’s most powerful weapons, used to turn the tide of war against the beasts.
The mix of Victorian era technology coupled with a bit of speculative steampunk fiction makes for some exciting gadgetry, as well as for the chance to experience history in a novel manner.
