The Linux Foundation has announced that the 2015 Linux Training Scholarship Program is now open, and it's accepting submissions.

The Linux Foundation has as number of initiatives, like coursed and certifications, but the non-profit organization also provides a few scholarships in various domains for people who can't afford the costs. There aren't many places, and the Linux Foundation is a very trustworthy organization, and that means a lot of people will apply.

In fact, over a 1000 submissions were received in 2014, so it's quite likely that there are going to be a lot more this year. The scholarships are opened for a few very specific domains, and in fact, there are nine more than they had back on 2014.

A certification from The Linux Foundation goes a long way

There are quite a few domains covered by the scholarship, including Embedded Linux Development, Embedded Linux Development with Yocto Project/OpenEmbedded, Developing Device Drivers, Linux Kernel Internals and Debugging, Developing Applications for Linux, Linux System Administration, Linux Network Management, Linux Performance Tuning, OpenStack Cloud Architecture and Deployment, and Linux KVM Virtualization.

“Our work aimed and training and certifying Linux professionals is among the most important work we do. These individuals will manage and advance the Linux systems of tomorrow. This annual scholarship program is a key piece of that work and allows us to reach people we might not otherwise, increasing access to our learning materials and, this year, the Linux Foundation Certifications," said Amanda McPherson, chief marketing officer at The Linux Foundation.

The recipients of the scholarships will be announced in late August, and the applications are due by 11:59 p.m. PT on July 10, 2015. Also, it's worth pointing out that only the courses and the certification process are subsidized, any other expenses are supported by the applicants. If you do decide to participate, please keep in mind that it's going to be a tight race.
