14 DAY TRIAL // The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation 4 home console announces that it is upgrading the PlayStation 4 package which features the 500 GB hard drive by adding the Remastered edition of The Last of Us to it at no additional cost.
The official announcement states, “If you’ve managed to hold out on upgrading to PS4 for this long or if you have a stack of gift cards laying around after the holidays, now is the perfect time to get in on the action. This new bundle will begin appearing at participating retailers over the next few days for $399.99 (320 Euro).”
Presumably, all big retailers will replace all their current PlayStation 4 500 GB offers with the new package as soon as possible, but a full list has no yet been offered by Sony.
The PlayStation 4 has been performing well so far, having moved more than 18.5 million units to stores all over the world as of the beginning of 2015, ahead of the numbers posted by its main rival, the Xbox One from Microsoft.
The fact that a free game is added to the package will probably boost overall sales for the device and it will be interesting to see whether more free content will be added in the future.
The Last of Us: Remastered shows the power of the new hardware
When Remastered was first announced, many fans of The Last of Us were concerned that the game was brought to the PlayStation 4 just to make more money for developer Naughty Dog and for Sony.
But the new version of the title manages to use the processing power of the platform to significantly improve gameplay and includes a lot of content in one convenient package.
At the moment, the Naughty Dog team is working on a new Uncharted title, which is designed to be launched in 2015.
Rumors have also appeared about a sequel for The Last of Us, but it will presumably have to wait as the company finishes the story of Nathan Drake and delivers another big hit for the PlayStation 4.
