Sony might move to re-establish it in the coming months

The trademark linked to The Last Guardian in the United States has been again abandoned by the team at Sony in charge of the video game, according to the Patent and Trademark Office, but that does not mean automatically that work on the game is no longer proceeding.

The information comes from NeoGAF, which has inquired the official site of the organization and shows that the protection for the name has not been extended.

Sony has done something like this before for The Last Guardian and has then re-applied for protection from the US patent office.

The company has not offered any details on the status of the game in the past few months and the fan community will probably be disappointed to see that the trademark is no longer protected at the moment.

The Last Guardian might also be known under a new, different name internally or the company might simply be more focused on other matters than on keeping all its trademarks in line.

The title was confirmed as still in development in August of 2014, but since then no details on its status have been delivered.

The Last Guardian is the long awaited project from Team ICO

Team ICO is loved by a wide range of players for the work it has done on both Shadow of the Colossus and the original Ico, games that managed to mix original and solid gameplay with a lot of emotion.

The Last Guardian started development in 2007 and was initially supposed to be offered on the PS3, before an announcement was made that the team was moving over to the newer PlayStation 4.

The game is designed to focus on a human boy who has a special connection with a creature that displays features similar to both a cat and a bird, called Trico.

They will have to solve a range of puzzles together and will explore a world filled with other fantasy elements.

The Last Guardian was initially directed by Fumito Ueda, who left Sony but remained involved with the project as a consultant.

It will be interesting to see whether the company moves fast to secure a new trademark in the United States for it or whether it makes a new announcement about its future.
