A photo depicting a woman smiling next to the carcass of a giraffe has been making the rounds on the Internet lately and is really shocking, to say the least.

Rebecca Francis, the huntress featured in the viral photo, has sparked the Internet’s outrage after the picture of her happily smiling next to a giraffe she had killed was shared on Twitter by comedian Ricky Gervais.

Gervais also expressed his utter disgust with the actions of the woman by saying, “What must've happened to you in your life to make you want to kill a beautiful animal & then lie next to it smiling?”

The controversial picture was enough to start a heated argument on Twitter, with people expressing their profound indignation at what they described as animal cruelty. However, some took things a little too far and started sending death threats to the mother-of-eight.

The pic that started all this has been retweeted almost 30 thousand times until know, and it has more than 70 thousand shares on Facebook.

The woman’s answer was quite unexpected

Inevitably, the huntress had to come forward to provide an explanation, but she did not feel apologetic at all about the whole issue.

On the contrary, she expressed her gratitude for having been “a part of something so good,” Hunting Life reports.

She also said that the giraffe was “going to die soon and he could either be wasted or utilized by the local people. I chose to honor his life by providing others with his uses and I do not regret it for one second.”

However, what she clearly missed is that people were not as disturbed by the dead animal as they were by the grin on her face. “She's posing like she has a trophy!” one Twitter user commented.

It remains to be seen if her response manages to settle things down, although her smug attitude about the whole situation is very unlikely to have been of any help. A slight sign of regret could have served to appease the angry crowd.
