Marvel Games and Telltale Games have announced an upcoming collaboration for a video game series, slated for a 2017 release.

"Announced this evening in San Francisco, we're excited to reveal an all-new partnership with the incredible team at Marvel Entertainment. We'll be teaming up on the development of an upcoming Telltale game series project set to premiere in 2017," the latest entry on the Telltale Games blog reads.

Marvel is doing pretty well right now, having the hottest superhero movies out there, and its slew of corny stories and cardboard villains have now been accepted into the social norm. It's pretty good news for those who liked them before they were cool, and things are apparently going to get even better.

Telltale Games has also been on a roll in recent years, managing to create a ton of licensed narrative-driven adventure games, inspired by popular graphic novels like A Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, but also video game series such as Borderlands and Minecraft, the latter of which is still to be announced.

Telltale has its plate pretty full as is

The latest huge franchise to get the Telltale treatment is George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, whose episodic adaptation, Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series, has reached episode three.

The Disney-owned Marvel is one of the biggest contemporary popular culture licenses, and the two companies are now teaming up in order to develop an episodic project scheduled to make its debut sometime in 2017.

Everybody is speculating on the nature of the collaboration, since the two companies are winding up their hype machines in preparation for the official announcement. Most likely, nothing has been decided upon yet.

In any case, the people involved in the partnership are pretty excited at the prospect of marrying Telltale's propensity for narrative quality with Marvel's storytelling experience.

Furthermore, since the company's games already feature visuals with a distinct comic book style, the decision must not have been overly difficult.

The series is expected to land on PC and consoles. We'll come back with more information on the nature of the project as soon as it becomes available.
