Tails, the renown Amnesic Incognito Live System, has been updated to version 1.4, a release that brings a number of new features, updates components, and repairs some of the most annoying bugs discovered since Tails 1.3.

According to the release notes, major features in Tails 1.4 include the anonymous TOR Browser 4.5 web browser software based on Mozilla Firefox ESR, a shortcut for the Tails OpenPGP Applet, which has been added to the Gedit text editor, and Paperkey, a tool that allows users to print a backup of their OpenPGP secret keys on paper.

"Tails, The Amnesic Incognito Live System, version 1.4, is out," was stated in the official release announcement for Tails 1.4. "This release fixes numerous security issues and all users must upgrade as soon as possible. [...] There are numerous other changes that might not be apparent in the daily operation of a typical user."

Disconnect is now the new default search engine in Tails 1.4, providing Tor users with Google search results without bans or captchas, support for the Vietnamese language has been added to the LibreOffice office suite, Tor has been updated to version 0.2.6.7, I2P has been updated to version 0.9.19, and the mutt and msmtp commands were removed.

The Windows 8 camouflage has been updated

In addition to the changes mentioned above, Tails 1.4 removes the obsolete #i2p-help IRC channel from the Pidgin multi-protocol instant messaging client, adds support for more printers via the printer-driver-gutenprint package, disables any security warnings that might appear when connecting to IMAP or POP3 ports, and disables the new circuit view of the Tor Browser 4.5 application.

Among the issues resolved in Tails 1.4, we can mention the browser theme of the Windows 8 camouflage has been made compatible with the I2P and Unsafe browsers, support for Chromebook C720-2800 computers has been improved by upgrading the syslinux package, and the Tor Network Settings have been removed from the Torbutton menu.

Last but not least, the Tails Upgrader's localization has been repaired, Tor Browser will no longer crash when the Orca screen reader and magnifier is enabled, and the OpenPGP key servers configured in the Seahorse app have been fixed. Download Tails 1.4 right now from Softpedia.
