Announced late last month with much fanfare but without an actual binary for us to test out, Twitter’s new updated mobile client is finally available offering support for group DMs and video shooting and sharing.

These two particular enhancements have been in the works at Twitter for quite a while, and today we finally have an actual app to play with. Twitter just rolled out version 6.21 of its iOS client, and we’re excited to share the news with everyone reading us and, most importantly, those following us on Twitter.

Direct Messages for groups

You can now have a private talk with a group of your peers. You can start conversations with any of your followers, regardless if they’re also following each other or not. Anyone can create a group convo and add you to the list, and when that happens, you receive a handy notification telling you that people want to chat with you.

As per Twitter’s announcement in January, “Private conversations on Twitter are a great complement to the largely public experience on the platform. [...] the ability to converse privately with groups gives you more options for how and with whom you communicate on Twitter.”

Twitter video finally goes live

Arguably one of the most exciting new additions to the microblogging service since its inception, Twitter video is finally available to everyone wielding an iPhone or an iPad.

The new ability means you can not only shoot and share instant video on the network but also perform a bunch of edits to tweak the way your footage is viewed by others.

Unfortunately, some users are reporting that Twitter video currently doesn’t work for them. Also, the option is inexplicably tucked away behind the photos button when composing a Tweet. In any case, the update is finally available and Twitter should be done rolling out the new features any minute now.
