Nintendo has revealed some more interesting details regarding its upcoming team-based multiplayer shooter Splatoon.

The information comes from the game's official tumblr blog, where the company regularly posts new screenshots and reveals small tidbits meant to give us a better understanding of the upcoming game's mechanics.

The developers are doing a pretty good job of showcasing the features of the game, which have been further revealed during the most recent Nintendo Direct.

The new thing we learn is that the game will have a city hub where the Inklings will be able to hang out and spend their hard-earned experience points on various cosmetic upgrades and new weapons.

The developers have unveiled the headgear vendor, Anemo, a shy gal with sea anemone hair, that even has an actual clownfish living there.

In addition to this, players will also be able to visit other shops, such as the clothing shop and shoe shop, where the items in stock change from day to day.

It's all about the weapons

Furthermore, gamers will be able to purchase new tools to spread color around the battlefield at the weapons shop, but some of the guns will require players to have a certain level before purchase.

The overall nautical theme is preserved when it comes to the owner of the weapons shop, fashioned after the likeness of a horseshoe crab, and apparently obsessed with military gear.

The amount of currency that each player earns is tied to how much turf they covered in ink during a match, which means that you have to keep yourself busy if you want to maximize your earning potential.

Squid fighters will be able to carry a set of three different weapons into battle, a main, a sub and a special weapon.

Sub weapons can be utilized to great effect on the battlefield, the developer providing the example of an ink shield that blocks enemy attacks for a short duration.

Special weapons can have devastating effects during a match, the developers showing a portable ballistic missile that can spawn a veritable swirling maelstrom of ink at the point of impact.

In her shop, players can get new hats, helmets, glasses, goggles, and whatever else headgear-related.

Splatoon is coming exclusively to the Wii U home console from Nintendo, sometime this May.
