Owners of the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, get your slates out because Sony has just started rolling out its latest Sony User Experience upgrade (based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat) for your device.

The tablet has been announced back at MWC 2014, as a successor for the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, so a fresh software infusion is just what this baby needs. Let’s take a look and see what Sony is offering us.

PS4 Remote Play Compatibility

You might remember that the PS4 Remote Play feature has been introduced with the Xperia Z3 series which launched at IFA. Sony’s latest tablet, the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact has it and now the Xperia Z2 Tablet has it too.

So from now on your tablet can be used as a remote screen to connect and control your games on PlayStation 4. The new update will make the tablet compatible with the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller, so when you can’t use your TV to play games, your slate has you covered.

Hi-Res Audio

Audio experience on the Xperia Z2 Tablet has been improved, both turned up and in Hi-Res. The tablet now has built-in Hi-Res Audio and can playback PCM and DSD files.

The Walkman app now includes Sony’s DSEE HX technology which has been designed to enhance MP, AAC and Music Unlimited tunes quality.

Sony has also thought of headphones, seeing how different models provide different acoustics, so the Xperia Z2 Tablet now offers the possibility to choose from a selection of optimized settings for Sony headsets.

New Xperia Camera apps

The update will bring to the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet the latest Xperia Camera apps including Sound Photo, AR fun, Multi camera and Face in.

Other enhancements

The new build will reportedly boost up battery life via the latest version of the Battery STAMINA Mode software. The new Ultra STAMINA Mode has also been added, which should ensure the tablet can live up to a week in standby mode.

Furthermore, Sony wants to help you customize your tablet faster, so it has added a Quick Settings option. On top of that, there’s a Smart screen rotation feat which can determine whether the screen should be rotated or not, preventing accidental and unwanted rotations when you happen to lie down on the side or something similar.

Last but not least, the Record Screen function has been added to the rooster, letting users record a video of whatever they are doing on screen (PS4 Remote Play gameplay anyone?)

To conclude, if you own one of Sony’s wearables (SmartBand, SmartBand Talk or SmartWatch 3), you should know you can now unlock your tablet using these gadgets.
