Japanese handset maker Sony does not have a strong presence on the smartphone market in the United States. There aren’t too many carriers offering Sony handsets in the US, as the company prefers to sell them through its official store.

It’s unclear why Sony decided to give up on the US smartphone market a few years ago, but it may have something to do with its relation with carriers. The answer may be much simpler and would be the fact that Sony Xperia smartphones do not sell very well in the country.

Anyway, every flagship smartphone launched by Sony was available in the US through one of more official channels. This year was no exception, but what about other mid-range Android smartphones launched by the Japanese handset maker?

The latest additions to Sony’s portfolio in the United States are the Xperia T3 and Xperia M2, which are now available for purchase through Sony Store.

As XperiaBlog points out, Sony Xperia T3 is now up for grabs for $400 (€315) outright, while the Xperia M2 has been priced at $280 (€220).

Potential customers should know that both smartphones are unlocked and support LTE bands 4, 7 and 17, which makes them compatible with both AT&T and T-Mobile LTE bands.

The Xperia M2 Dual is available as well, but lacks LTE support

It also worth noting that Sony also sells the dual-SIM version of Xperia M2, but this particular version lacks LTE support so you will be limited to HSPA+ connectivity.

Sony Xperia T3 ships with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box, but we expect it to receive an Android 5.0 Lollipop update next year.

On the other hands, Xperia M2 was launched with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean onboard back in May, but in the meantime the smartphone got updated to KitKat as well.

Hardware-wise, they are slightly different as the Sony Xperia T3 is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit, while the Xperia M2 packs the same GPU and CPU but clocked at 1.2GHz.

Both smartphones come with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). They also sport 8-megapixel rear-facing cameras and secondary cameras in the front.

However, the Xperia T3 has a 5.3-inch HD (720p) display, whereas the Xperia M2 comes with a slightly smaller 4.8-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixels) capacitive touchscreen display.
