Sony fans and Android users alike who went for the Xperia M2 or Xperia M2 Dual will be pleased to know that the Japanese company has just released a new update for these smartphones.

Unveiled back in February at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 trade fair, the Xperia M2 went on sale a few months later in May. Sony’s mid-range smartphone was powered by Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.

However, Sony delivered an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade back in August, for both Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual, with the promise that the smartphone would receive more software updates.

Today, XperiaBlog reports Sony has just kicked off the rollout of Android 4.4.4 KitKat for Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual smartphones. The update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so it will take some time until it reaches all devices.

Owners of these smartphones should look for firmware version 18.3.1.C.0.21, which should bring the devices to Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Although the updates are a good thing, we’re pretty sure that Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual owners are actually waiting for the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade.

Unfortunately, for the time being, neither of these two smartphone has been confirmed for a Lollipop update, but stay tuned for more info on the matter.
