The free version of the PS4 racing game isn't coming soon

Sony has once again offered a statement concerning the Driveclub PS Plus edition that was supposed to arrive for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers back in October, saying that it's disappointed with the situation but that it won't release it until the servers are ready to handle the load.

Driveclub was initially set for a November release in 2013 right alongside the PlayStation 4 console, but shortly before that time, both Sony and developer Evolution Studios decided to postpone the launch in order to polish the experience and make sure it was going to delight fans.

After almost one whole year, the game rolled out for the PS4 in October and was immediately met with many different issues relating to its multiplayer mode and the whole social racing experience. This caused a lot of frustration and also meant that the free PS Plus edition of the game, which was supposed to appear right alongside the full version, had to be delayed.

Sony is disappointed with the situation

After hearing from Evolution that the team still has a lot of work ahead of it before releasing the PS Plus version, Sony now sheds a bit more light on the whole Driveclub situation through the voice of its UK Marketing Manager, Fergal Gara.

The executive has talked to IGN and emphasized right from the get-go how disappointed the company is with the situation, especially since it places customer trust among its objectives.

"It’s a disappointment," he admits. "When you lay your soul out as being '4ThePlayers', then what you certainly don’t want is games that are not fully ready. It certainly wasn’t any ill-intention on behalf of the team. It’s ambitious as a game; they’re as embarrassed as we are and all you can do in those situations is say sorry."

No Driveclub PS Plus edition until the servers are ready

While Driveclub players no longer encounter that many issues right now, Sony is still not pleased with the situation and wants to be really sure that the servers can withstand the millions of PS Plus subscribers that will jump at the occasion of playing the racing game for free.

"We don’t want to introduce the PS Plus Edition until we’re confident the servers can take the load. Unleashing it on the millions of PS Plus users is the next step, but we want confidence in the capacity and concurrency figures. I’ll say again: we apologize and are trying to sort it, and we’ll hopefully learn from it so we see it less in future," he adds.

As such, don't expect to see the Driveclub PS Plus edition anytime soon, as apparently Sony doesn't want to make any mistakes. Check out our Driveclub PS4 review.
