Footage captured from an early build of the game

With less than two months left until the release of Bloodborne, Sony is likely to start releasing all sorts of details on the upcoming game and the first to be served is a video containing 18 minutes of footage captured from an early build.

Those lucky enough to get into the alpha will recognize the opening of Bloodborne, so there won’t be any spoilers for them. Still, the first part of the game doesn’t have that many spoilers, and in any case, the story isn’t the core of a Souls game, though Bloodborne could very well be much different than the previous games made by From Software.

Bloodborne’s story takes place in the Gothic city of Yarnham. Many will recognize the Victorian architecture of the city, but few probably know that Bloodborne’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki has modeled the game after Eastern Europe, with some research trips in Romani and the Czech Republic.

The first boss fight is not meant to be won

In the first 18 minutes of Bloodborne, we are also introduced to the game’s central hub and an interesting warping system. Each of the Souls games has such a central hub, so Bloodborne has been built on the same premise.

Instead of the well-known bonfires, Bloodborne features antique torches. It’s also worth mentioning that players will be headquartered in a mysterious cathedral, which acts as a home base.

Just like in Demon’s Souls, you will fight a boss that you aren’t meant to defeat. The fight is just meant to give a feel of what’s to come, in a brutal way. Not that the whole game might not be brutal, but just don’t try to win that fight when you play the game next month.

Bloodborne is a PS4-exclusive game, which has been confirmed for release on March 24 in North America, March 25 in Europe and March 27 in the UK.
