Video game developer and publisher Sony announces that its much promoted before launch PlayStation Home social space is at the moment set to be closed off entirely on March 31 of 2015 in both North America and in Europe.

The company explains in the official announcement that “PlayStation Home has been serving the PS3 community since December 2008. During that time, tens of millions of users around the world have grown the social gaming platform into a thriving community of creative and enthusiastic gamers.”

Those who are still using PS Home will need to mark down November 12 of this year as the moment when no new content will be launched, while downloads will be stopped on December 3.

Sony does plan to launch free content that was initially paid for before the full closure date, although at the moment it has not offered any details on what gamers are supposed to get access to.

PlayStation Home was supposed to offer a social space which would allow users to create an avatar that can be customized with PlayStation-themed content, with a range of games and activities available for free or for a small price.

Unfortunately, the tech was not able to do justice to this idea and player participation has been limited since launch.
