The company apologizes for any inconvenience

The PlayStation 4 is at the moment the best-selling new generation home console, and it seems that even as its numbers continue to increase, Sony might have a long-term problem with the demands increased use will put on its PlayStation Network and its ability to deliver solutions for firmware-related problems.

Michael Ephraim, the leader of the division of the company handling business in Australia, says that the entire team moves as quickly as possible to deal with problems, like those introduced by the 2.0 firmware update.

At the same time, it is hard to fix issues as quickly as the community expects them to and the Sony leader apologizes in advance to the gamers who might be unable to use some features.

The 2.0 firmware for the PlayStation 4 was designed to introduce support for both Share Play and YouTube, but a lot of consoles were affected by reset and Rest Mode issues.

VG247 quotes the Sony executive as saying that “Dealing with network and digital – I’m not trying to spread or deflect anything, but dealing on such a robust network is a tricky experience. The good thing is we’ve launched 2.01, which has fixed the rest mode, and has fixed the YouTube app. It was very unfortunate. We hate that. The network was down during the 2.0 release. It’s very unfortunate. Those things are gonna happen over time. We’re not bulletproof on those things.”

The PlayStation Network will require long-term improvements

The PlayStation Network has recently underwent a six-hour-long maintenance period in both the United States and in Europe, with Sony claiming that it has upgraded a number of elements of the service.

They are needed because the PlayStation 4 heavily relies on the service for content, with gamers able to grab free games using the PS Plus, the PlayStation Now service set to soon introduce streaming, and with a lot of applications that fans rely on for social networking and sharing.

Sony has already been affected by a major security breach and wants to avoid something similar in the future.

The PlayStation 4 is at the moment over the 13.5 million unit sold all over the world mark and Microsoft says that the Xbox One is hovering around the 10 million shipped to stores mark.

Both devices will continue to reveal bundles and special offers in the weeks left until Christmas, as they seek to generate more sales and to create long-term momentum.
