Rumors about the mythological Sony NEX-7 successor have been heating up quite a lot lately. And we told you a few days ago that the upcoming A7000 might be launched by the PlayStation maker as soon as CES 2015 or the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show.

Even if the camera has been said to arrive since forever, we still don’t know a whole lot about its specifications. According to sources familiar with the matter, the A7000 is said to have a rangefinder-like design and weather sealed properties.

More than that, the camera should bring to the table the possibility of uncompressed 4K video recording, something that will appeal to a lot of customers.

More spec info emerges about the A7000

Another day, another batch of tidbits regarding the camera emerges. Sony Alpha Rumors now reports that a new sensor technology will be added inside the A7000, although today’s sources don’t mention anything about the resolution, which is believed to be 24MP.

The image sensor is said to be extremely sensitive, as Sony has been focusing on upgrading the ISO capabilities of the device.

Furthermore, it is revealed that the camera will take advantage of a new focus system that consists of 246 Phase Detection points plus 125 Contrast Detection points, which is a little better than the 179-point focus system the A6000 bundles.

On the back lies a touchscreen with a Tri Nav menu system that allows photographers to see what they are shooting and navigate through the settings with ease.

Moreover, the Sony A7000 comes equipped with the same electronic viewfinder one can find in the NEX-6 and NEX-7, which is a little bit odd, since the A6000’s viewfinder is newer and reportedly better.

Good news! The A7000 is going to be relatively affordable

Last but not least, the A7000 is expected to retail for a cheaper price than previously anticipated, which is of course really good news. The A6000 currently sells for $650 / €513, but the predecessor, NEX-6, is placed below the NEX-7, so the A7000 should hit retail locations with a $699 / €551 price.

The latest leak claims that A7000 is scheduled to be unleashed at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, event that usually takes place in early January.

Along the A7000, Sony will also launch the new Zeiss 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS lens which, like the camera, will come with weather sealed properties. The new optic is described as being shorter in length but a bit wider in diameter than the current Zeiss 16-70mm.
