The distribution is updated constantly by the devs

SolydX, a Debian-based distribution that features the Xfce desktop environment and uses a rolling release model, is now at version 201411 and is ready for download.

Unlike most of the Linux distributions out there, usually aimed at regular users, SolydX was built as an open source alternative for small businesses, non-profit organizations, and home users.

This is just one of the two distros made by this developer. SolydX comes with Xfce by default and SolydK features KDE as the default desktop environment. For now, it looks like only the Xfce flavor has been updated.

Interestingly enough, the SolydXK project actually started as a Linux Mint Debian alternative, but in the meantime the Mint team also got its own Debian version running. The devs continued with their project and they're still trying to make something different from everybody else, and the rolling release model is proof that they are working very hard on the distros.

SolydX is a rolling release distro

Not too many operating systems use this kind of development model, of a rolling release, but they seem to become more common. Even the Ubuntu team has been talking about this kind of model, but a decision hasn't been reached just yet.

"SolydX is a Debian based distribution with the Xfce desktop. It intends to be as light-weight as possible without giving up any of the expected functionality. After burning the ISO to USB or DVD, you can try SolydX 'Live' before you decide to install."

"SolydX does not need to be reinstalled each time an update is released. You don’t have to reinstall, ever! Updates are delivered in quarterly packs through the update manager. The update manager sits in your system tray and signals you whenever there is an update available," reads the official website.

SolydX might feel like a strange experience at first, because it uses the Xfce desktop environment, but it comes with a KDE-like theme. Also, the developers have chosen to integrate a number of not-so-good apps. For example, the default text editing application is AbiWord. This is not a bad application, but it's not as good as LivreOffice.

More details about SolydX can be found on the official website. You can download SolydX 201411 from Softpedia. It runs very well in a virtual environment or from a regular USB stick. It's possible to install it after the Live session has started.
