The Simplicity Linux development team, through David Purse, had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download and testing of the Beta version of the upcoming Simplicity Linux 15.4 computer operating system. Simplicity Linux aims to be a small, fast, and versatile Linux distro based on Puppy Linux.

The new Beta release of Simplicity Linux 15.4 is based on the LXPup operating system for the 32-bit Live CD ISO images, as well as LXPup64 for 64-bit Live CDs. The distribution is currently available for download as Desktop and Netbook editions (see download links at the end of the article). The decision to move to an LXPup base was taken because of the very good implementation of the LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) desktop environment.

“We are pleased to announce that Simplicity Linux 15.4 Beta is now available to download,” says David Purse. “We are releasing Netbook and Desktop betas, both available for the first time in 32 bit or 64 bit editions. We’re basing these on LXPup and LXPup64, because it is an excellent distro with a really good implementation of LXDE.”

The latest TOR Browser has been included and new app shortcuts added

According to the release notes, Simplicity Linux 15.4 Beta comes with the latest Tor Browser Bundle, a complete version of the latest LibreOffice office suite, as well as desktop versions of the Google Chrome web browser and Dropbox client in the Desktop edition.

On the other hand, the Netbook edition includes both Google Chrome and Tor Browser, and adds shortcuts to various web services, including Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, YouTube, Netflix, Google Docs, Grooveshark, and Dropbox. A virtual assistant app has also been included.
