Users have numerous desktop choices with Siduction

Siduction is a Linux distribution that comes with six desktop environments, KDE, XFCE LXDE, GNOME, LXQt and Cinnamon, for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. A new version has been made available in the series and it looks like there are quite a few changes and improvements.

It's been quite a while since the previous Siduction release got launched and the developers have been very busy. So much so that they have added a couple of new desktop environments into the mix and ditched another (sort of).

The newcomer is Cinnamon, and the Razor-qt project was folded into LXQt. Basically, they added two new entries and they removed one.

This project provides all of these flavors separately, so there is a great deal of work to be done, although the system is basically a mirror image of Debian Sid (unstable), which is then altered with scripts, different packages, and lots of new apps.

The end result is a flurry of Siduction flavors, all based on the latest kernel available. There is a lot to take in, so you need to decide ahead of time what flavor you really want.

Siduction 2014.1 is all about choice

The Linux operating system represents the ultimate power of choice for users, and the devs who make Siduction want to provide users with as many choices as possible. The new release is called "Indian Summer" and it packs quite a few updates.

"Indian Summer is shipped with six desktop environments: KDE SC, XFCE, LXDE, LXQt, GNOME and Cinnamon, all in 32- and 64-bit variants. From the included DEs this time around only LXDE fits on a CD with 700 MegaByte. But as CDs become more irrelevant with every day, we are not too worried about this and recommend to use USB-Sticks for installation."

"The released images are a snapshot of Debian unstable, that also goes by the name of Sid, from 2014-11-22. They are enhanced with some useful packages and scripts, our own installer and a custom patched version of the linux kernel 3.17, accompanied by X-Server 1.16.1. Besides those desktop environments we also include noX, which is an environment  without X," is noted in the announcement.

The devs have also explained that Cinnamon 2.4 is offered by default, KDE SC has been upgraded to version 4.14.2, GNOME has been upgraded to version 3.14.1, as expected, Xfce has remained to version 4.10.1, and Btrfs is still an option.
