Shia LaBeouf says Method acting is to “blame” for all his recent problems

Shia LaBeouf has had a couple of very strange years. He’s no longer the nice kid he was when he was still on Michael Bay’s “Transformers,” being painted in the media as a very troubled, yet visibly talented, young man.

His most recent arrest, during a Broadway play, when he caused trouble with both the other theatergoers and the police, is proof of that – but the truth is his problems had begun long before that, with reports of heavy drinking, drug binges, and irresponsible behavior.

Now promoting the war drama “Fury,” Shia is revisiting that incident and shedding some light into what really happened to make him lip out like this.

Shia LaBeouf is too Method for his own good

Shia is featured in the latest issue of Interview magazine, with excerpts from the piece having already made their way online. In a couple of them, he’s talking about how he’s a Method actor, which means he immerses himself in a role and doesn’t break character at all, not even when he’s not shooting.

We’ve previously heard of how Method Shia was when a co-star on “Fury” told the media that he’d cut himself on the face just so he could bleed from the wound whenever he needed to, to make the wound more convincing. He confirmed the story later, just like he did reports that he had had one healthy tooth removed because that was one of the distinctive features of his onscreen character.

Apparently, being so Method has put Shia in trouble more than once, starting with the “Cabaret” play on Broadway.

“I was reading about performance art of the ’60s and ’70s and so I thought... we’re all involved here. It’s not just your stage. We’re all in here and we’re all part of this. I was wrong,” Shia tells Interview of the arrest, as cited by Page Six.

He also explained why he was dropped from “Orphans” with Alec Baldwin, saying his Method acting was also to be blame then because he was going to such lengths to not just play the character but be it.

“At the time, I was out of my mind. My whole goal was to intimidate the [hell] out of Baldwin. That was the role. And it wasn’t going to be fake. I wanted him to be scared... So I went about doing that for three weeks of rehearsal,” he explains.

At the end of those three weeks, he was fired after Alec complained to producers he couldn’t work with such an unprofessional man. Talk about a plan backfiring.

Shia, hypocrite much?

You would be excused if you believed Shia, because he has a very convincing way of presenting a situation. However, as you can see in the video below, just last week on Jimmy Kimmel, he made no attempt at denying that the arrest was due to his being an awfully rude drunk.

That story too was very convincing – and considerably funnier, too.

So which one are the fans to believe? Did Shia start spitting on cops and slapping people across the back of the head because he was in character, him being so Method and all that, or because he had drunk so much as to completely lose it? More importantly, was the meltdown / arrest the mark of a troubled genius at work, or the cry for help of an alcoholic?

Well, if Shia continues to change the narrative this way, depending on which media outlet he talks to, we might never know the truth.
