Shania Twain is back! The pop country diva, who is behind the best-selling album from any genre by a woman (“Come on Over,” 1997), is getting ready to go back on the road, with her first tour in 11 years, called Rock This Country Tour.

The announcement came on ABC’s Good Morning America, in an interview with good friend Robin Roberts. The bad news is that this new tour from Shania will also be her last: she’s looking to “go out with a bang,” she says.

Tour kicks off in June, will include 48 cities

After her 2004 tour, Shania pretty much went under the radar, battling vocal issues and having trouble in her personal life. Her comeback was represented by a 2-year residency in Las Vegas, at the Caesars Palace, which wrapped last December and which she describes as a “huge mountain” for her to climb.

However, the tour will be different from the shows she’s been doing in Vegas, Shania explains, as you can see in the video below. She wants to come up with a show that will be made to be taken on the road, and that will translate for the fans like a huge afterparty.

A somewhat emotional Shania says that she’s not thinking of this tour as her goodbye, even though it is, but as a “celebration” of a career that spanned many years, many hits and many wonderful accomplishments. It’s her way of throwing the fans one last huge party, as a thank-you for all the years of support and love.

Rock This Country will include 48 cities from the US and Canada, and will conclude in August, right before Shania’s 50th birthday. By the way, that’s not a coincidence, she smiles.

A new album is also in the works

If the news that Shania is retiring has made you sad, here’s something to sweeten the pill a bit: she’s also working on a new album. The tour will include, as expected, some of her biggest hits to date, but also new material, as a preview for her loyal fans.

Speaking of loyal fans, they will be able to purchase tickets once they go on pre-sale next week, while the rest of the world will have to wait until March 13 to get their hands on them.

“I'm working on the new record as we speak. I'm on the microphone every day recording,” she says. “That will be coming up after the tour. I want to enjoy that party and then I'll get back to the record. I want it to come out when I'm 50, so I'm going to make it happen.”

She doesn’t pinpoint an exact release date for the album, but having August as reference helps in concluding that it will be out in the second half of the year.
