Publisher Stardock Entertainment unveiled a brand new real-time strategy game at the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, BonusXP's Servo.

BonusXP is a relatively new studio benefiting from the experience of some well-known industry veterans, including Age of Empires' David Pottinger and Bruce Shelley, famous for his work on Civilization, Railroad Tycoon, and Age of Empires.

The studio's next project is Servo, a strategy game featuring customized miniature mechs. The game combines the traditional mechanics of the genre, while adding a whole new dimension, the ability to create and upgrade war machines piloted by mercenaries.

The action takes place in a future where we, inevitably, devastated Earth and left, only to return to fend off an alien invasion and attempt to recolonize the planet.

During the single-player and cooperative campaign, you'll have to scavenge for parts after battles and outfit your mechs with the best equipment to get the job done. Servo also supports player versus player action, so you'll be able to test your design skills against other similar masterminds.

The customizable mechs are what sells the game

Each of the mechs has over a dozen slots that can be fitted with new parts, including more outlandish sounding ones like nemodium blade swords and void beams.

Furthermore, Servos can be combined with supporting drone armies, and players also have to worry about the usual resource war, as the game also has an economic component to manage.

The developers state that Servo is meant to offer a short and fast-paced experience, with matches tending to take around 10 to 15 minutes to complete, in both single-player and competitive multiplayer.

The design revolves around small-scope battles, avoiding long, drawn-out matches where attrition or a stroke of luck defines the winner.
