However, she’s been blessed with a baby face she once said she hated growing up because she, like many other girls her age, wanted to look more mature. In the end, she said, she would probably come to love it because it would help her appear younger at a time when other women would start getting plastic surgery for the same reason.
Today, it’s precisely Selena’s baby face, made to appear even younger, in the latest issue of V Magazine, that’s getting people online, some of them fans, some not, hot under the collar. This Lolita look is just wrong.
Selena does V Magazine, opens up on Justin Bieber romance
As noted the other day, Selena sat down with the publication for an interview on her career so far, her life and the lessons she’s learned from pretty much growing up in the spotlight.
She doesn’t talk about her Disney start, but she does open up about her much publicized relationship with Justin Bieber, which ended last year after almost 4 years and several breakups and reconciliations, and how they seemed unable to quit each other because they lived under the impression it was them against the world.
This is the first time that Selena talks about the breakup, which is final (as far as the world knows), and she makes it a memorable one: she doesn’t badmouth Justin or expresses regret at the time spent with him, focusing instead on the lessons learned from the heartbreak.
The most important, Selena says, refers to how you should handle matters of the heart when you’re a celebrity and knowing where to draw the line on things you want to share with the public. Selena believes her next relationship will be “different” than the one she had with Bieber.
Yes, but what’s up with the accompanying photospread?
All that’s nice, because it shows Selena is growing up and, at the same time, honing her media skills. But what’s up with the accompanying spread, voices online demand to know.
In several of the shots, Gomez is shown shirtless, hiding her modesty with her arms or by turning her back to the camera. The photos aren’t even close to inappropriate even though the suggestion of bare skin is there, because they don’t reveal absolutely anything.
What makes them inappropriate, the same voices are saying, is Selena’s styling, including for those photos in which she’s wearing a full outfit. As you can see in the gallery below, there’s a certain Lolita vibe going on, making the already baby-faced singer appear even younger - a child almost.
This is achieved with the big hair, styled in curls, and a very different makeup style, including fake eyelashes and lots of lipgloss, which give her face an almost doll-like quality.
According to many people discussing this right now, this is just plain wrong. And Selena shoulders some of the blame for the existence of the spread because she agreed to take part in it.
