14 DAY TRIAL // BlackBerry doesn't have too many modern smartphones right now on the market, but the ones it has do manage to make the headlines every once in a while because of the most unexpected... let's call them bugs. And what's worse, the most affected devices seem to be the odd-shaped Passport and its smaller brother Q10.
This time, it all comes down to the display, as we're receiving reports from a number of reddit users who found out that their screens just started lifting all of a sudden.
Not that they're alive or anything, but the screens available on some Passports, and apparently on some BlackBerry Q10 models, aren't properly glued to the frame of the phone and sometimes come off.
There's a pretty simple explanation for this problem. Basically, the metal frame of the phone plays the role of a heat sink, so when you do something more demanding on your device, such as watching an HD video or playing a game, the generated heat melts the glue used to keep the display in place.
Needless to say, if you shake your phone when this happens, the screen might actually come off, so just try to use it gently whenever you're watching an HD clip.
How to repair it
And now comes that obvious question, “how do I repair it?” The short answer is “you can't.” The long answer is that it depends on how lucky you are.
Basically, you have no other option than to send it back to BlackBerry or the retailer that sold the device to you, but in most of the cases, the display is put in place with more glue, so it could come off whenever the aforementioned thing happens again.
Those who were a bit luckier got a brand new BlackBerry, but that doesn't mean anything because it could be affected by the very same problem as well.
In the end, it's all just a matter of luck. Or maybe it's a sign that a square display has no place on a modern smartphone. Just saying.
