The development team at Frontier Developments and publisher Microsoft are announcing the unusual step of delivering a demo for the upcoming ScreamRide, which is set to be offered starting today on both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 home consoles, two weeks before the date when the full title will be introduced.

The launch trailer accompanying the demo and this article is pretty impressive and shows some interesting rollercoaster building and destruction, which will probably appeal to those who played a lot of the classic tycoon title linked to the genre.

The demo for ScreamRide will feature all the career modes, but will only offer a limited number of levels on which gamers can test their skills.

The official Xbox Wire announcement states, "Want to test your awesome twitch action gameplay skills by steering a coaster car directly through crazy mazes? Then strap yourself in the cockpit as a ScreamRider and ride a coaster through the labyrinth of twists and turns. For a change of pace, you can play as the Engineer and strategically plan how to build the best coasters with the provided tools."

In a unique twist on the genre, ScreamRide also offers a Demolition Expert mode, designed to give gamers a chance to destroy their own creations by launching explosive pods at them and seeing them crumble when they are hit.

The title is also offered for both pre-load and pre-order starting today, for those players who want to own it ahead of the March 3 official launch date.

ScreamRide could offer something unique on the Xbox One

The new title revives a genre that has long been dominated by PC experiences and has not been updated much in the past few years.

The creation and destruction tools and the bright graphics design make it a solid way to show off the computing power of the Xbox One, but it's unclear whether players who own the Microsoft platform will be interested in building and testing rollercoasters.

If ScreamRide sells well, then a range of other mid-tier titles might be launched on the console and a similar initiative will probably also be introduced for the PlayStation 4, as Sony always makes sure that its own device does not lack a potential selling point.
