The main part of the movie adaptation “Ghost in the Shell” was rumored until today to go to the “Wolf of Wall Street” actress, Margot Robbie, but now industry insiders are confirming the studio is actually in negotiations with “Lucy” actress, Scarlett Johansson.

Deadline reports that DreamWorks is willing to throw several million dollars on the table to make sure that Johansson is going to play in the live-action adaptation of the popular Ghost in the shell manga series.

Rupert Sanders, the man who directed “Snow White and the Huntsman” will sit behind the lens and he will be working off a script written by William Wheeler. Steven Paul, Avi and Ari Arad are going to act as producers with the help of Steven Spielberg.

The rights to the movie were bought several years ago with the intent of turning it into a 3D production. The story follows a covert-ops police unit which investigates technology-related crimes, making it a complex futuristic trailer.

Margot Robbie has dropped out of the race for the part altogether, instead focusing her efforts on securing a part for the DC Comics adaptation for “Suicide Squad,” a Warner Bros blockbuster that centers on comic book anti-heroes.
